Brian,
I see you have a 19' Capri listed under your name as "in the shop now". My Capri is 668 and was a late 1957. I have started a very intense documentation on my boat since it was original and hopefully can get to the museum on day to research other Capri's.
Did your boat have wood set pads?

Pete,

The Capri here is #528, an "early" '57 shipped 11/30/56. It had the mint green upholstery with a black alligator dash w/glove box and white rubber step pads. They only came this way for the first few months of the '57 models. By January of '57 the 19' Capri had the red and white upholstery and teak step pads. John Lahti has a really original one shipped in Jan of '57.

I got some really interesting factory '57 Capri photos from the museum a few weeks ago documenting the first red/white upholstered 19' dated 11/26/56, so I know the one here was one of the last with the green. These factory photos also show a white dash w/ glove box which did not last very long either. By January of '57 they had the red dash with new gauges like yours.

Does your boat have the Taylor-Made windshield or the more raked earlier Capri/Cobra style? Is yours 6V or 12V. Both changed at the end of '57, early '58.

Brian,
My Capri was also very original it has the red and white interior with red dash with 5 instruments and no glove box. the windscreen looks just like the Cobra. The step pads are teak and original.
The only thing that is not original is the seat skins they had been replaced but look to be made from the original patterns.

If you have any photo's of the original red and white interior in color I would love to get a copy to compare the pattern and the color of the cord for each area of the seat.

My boat also has 12v system with plastic wire except the bow light and the 6volt instruments all had resistors on them.

Another item that I am missing and really need a photo and info is the horn for this 1957. Could you shed any light on this Brian??

Thanks
Pete

Nothing on the horn at the moment, Pete. But I have a few boats to look at in the Spring. Same with the red and white. When the red meets the white, the cord is that funky silver.

Brian, in those factory photos is there any indication that the ceiling boards are all bleached or are there any photos of boats that have the upper ceiling boards left natural (no stain) and the remaining bleached?

Sorry, forgot all about it. Nothing on the horn. I think the white dash was only done on a handful of boats - after the green boats - but then the dash was red on the red/white boats (maybe when the gauges changed?).

Brian,
Thanks alot for the photo's I just never get enough information on this stuff. I am still trying to findout the correct white material for the seats. Does anyone out there have a small sample that I could match the correct shade of white. I also need a small piece of the silver cord if anyone has a small piece I could match.
Thanks again

I had a couple 1957 19's come into the shop with original horns. Here is a picture of each.

Brian, just saw this thread. Any factory photos of mint green? Do we know what flooring this is? Good stuff.

Mine (545) shipped on 12/18/56 with Mint Green, with the later dash, later guages centered in the dash.

No, nothing on mint green - it was short lived, 2-3 months tops.

That flooring is Decoray.

Your boat must have been one of the first with the newer gauges in the center.

The '57s were an ever-changing animal for sure.

Mint green would be a cool color to see again.

I've come to the conclusion it looks like this, though I have seen several different seam and cushion patterns.

Rob,
Thanks much for the great photo's. The wiring is exactly like mine and the relay also. The horn on my boat was newer most likely due to burning out.
Any clue on where to find the horn?
Thanks again!

Funny, i check their site regularly. More funny, I've talked to Herb about Decoray before - he showed me some marmoleum samples he thought were suitable, but we never discussed this boat. Under my nose this whole time.

What do you make of the black alligator on the deck under the windshield? Thanks for the heads up.

I've seen the alligator under the windshield on a couple Capri's and at least one Cobra. I think it was a dealer fix to hide the blonde opening at the seams, especially in California.

Brian - Matt
Sure wish we could get our hands on some of this flooring. My late 57 had the Raybelle in it same as the photo. That is one of the better photo showing the pattern.

I was looking at the seat in this photo and some of the welting is red on the seat bottom sides and on the front side at the top seat back it looks silver but on the backside of the top of the seat it looks white??

I like his horn button also just a foot away..

Photo are great and you really study this stuff and find out more you may not know..

thanks guys for the posting

On the front of the back rest it looks like silver but on the backside of the back rest top it looks white. Maybe it is just my computer..

The white material in the photo. Is there any number or name for it?

Hey look, factory 1957 mint green upholstery! The white top edge panel might be a repair (not sure).
