'56 Sea Skiff Front Seat

Post by Skiffdaddy » Sun Jun 02, 2013 7:51 pm

Here's a good one. I bought an 18' CC Sea Skiff with no front seat.
I'm going to build one and wondered if anyone has a set of measurements they would be willing to share.
Otherwise I'm just going to have to eyeball some photos and try to get it right.

Oh...one other question. Where does the battery usually sit in a mid-fifties Sea Skiff?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Hey,

You may want to throw this post up in hull construction.

My '58 22 open has the front bench seat with the little hinged trap door thingy for the center back rest. My knees wish it was a walk-thru style, but thats another topic.

You have the seat risers as a height guide and maybe some screw holes for positioning. I also found that in my boat, the brush stopped in the hard to get to places, so if I had taken out my seat, I would see little tell-tales all over the place. If you could send me a pic of the 18 seat style you like (don't know if options existed) and its similiar to mine, then maybe I could give you some relative dimensions that you could get you started as you compare against pictures.

Not as good as dimensions from an actual 18 though. Hopefully, someone with an 18 can help, but I could do some rough calcs if you think it might help.

The battery in my boat sits in a well under the front seat - centered.

Good luck, Steve

Hi, Skiffdaddy-

I have a 1955 18' Sea Skiff (BETSY: SK-18-074 in Hull Registry) and I'll try to get some good front seat dimensions for you in the next day or so. It's raining today and she's covered but I'll try tomorrow. BETSY is now FOR SALE- I just bought a 22...more on that later. If you have $1200.00 It'll buy you the front seat, PLUS the entire Sea Skiff it's attached to! Great boat; original running A engine, needs decks and transom...

Stay tuned for more...

From the bow through the windshield, the battery fits right under the middle.

Thanks to all for the help.
Grant, your pictures and sketch go above and beyond the call of duty. Can't thank you enough.
I've already picked out the mahogany and am about to get started on the build.
Will post pictures when finished.
