Hope This is the correct forum
Being a glutton for punishment, I am considering removing some sort of white painted laminate on my bow deck. I like the look of stained and varnished wood planking. just not sure what’s underneath this laminate.
any thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated

Re: ‘57 CC Sedan bow decking
Originally the foredeck on these sedan cruisers had a plywood deck covered in canvas painted a sand color.
Boats are to be made of wood, otherwise, God would have grown fiberglass trees.

Thanks Captain
I was afraid of that!! I guess no real options to see more wood.

I have a 1955' sedan cruiser I restored and had the same challenge.
I pulled off that canvas and tried to glue 3/8" tongue/groove white oak to that under lying plywood. Long story short, that glue failed which was made worse by not giving expansion relief. I ended up cutting that whole deck out, replacing the plywood, and finishing with 5/8" mahogany, with live seams every 5-1/2". Problem solved and it looks beautiful. I added a hatch as well.

That mahogany foredeck looks great.
