Tavares, FL Sunnyland Show!!

Post by Don Ayers » Thu Mar 03, 2011 11:48 am

Alright everyone, the big show is mere weeks away.

Don Ayers and Angilla Baccus (our new assoc. Editor) will be manning the tent and look forward to visiting will all who come by.

Bill Basler and Brian Robinson will not be attending and Terry will of course be around running the show.

We will be sharing a tent with the wild and crazy Woody Boater Matt Smith.

Al Benton, you are officially in charge of a group picture, last I heard you were talking Sat at 1 PM??

We need a few volunteers to spread the word about our group, the fantastic benefits and the Brass Bell magazine.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!!!

Don, we all look forward to the show and to meeting Angela and, of course, seeing you again. We'll certainly miss Bill and Brian at the show this year.

Lets make it official: Meet at the Chris-Craft display at 1:00 pm on Saturday for fellowship and photo. It will be great to see a big group of us there.

For those (like John Rothert) who can't be there on Saturday, be at the display at 4:00 pm Friday. We'll have a good visit, take a photo and photoshop you into the group photo. Hey, come by both times, if you can.

Can anyone tell me if Sunnyland is going to sponsor any short cruises during the show for participants as has been done in the past? The last time I had a boat there was in 2004 and there was at least one cruise thru the Dora canal, Dead River and down to the public park on lake Harris for a barbque. I just had all the brightwork on my Carver refinished at Rand Speas' restoration shop in Welaka but don't want to bring it down just to park it at the dock for 3 days. I do plan to be there one way or the other Friday to meet up with John and Al and sneak into the group picture even if only by digital magic. dick baner

I too will miss seeing Bill and Brian, but look forward to seeing all the rest of the gang. I will be there on thursday at some point, and all day friday. Anyone debating about making the trip should just MAKE IT HAPPEN, the best show/gathering...thanks to Terry and the Sunnyland crew.

Dick, the picnic cruise is on the agenda for Friday. I believe they leave Tavares around 10:00 am and return by 3:00 pm (or sooner). The picnic is on Lake Harris so the canal and river are included. Bring your boat!

Dave, good to hear from you. I look forward to finally meeting you after missing each other last year. Could you be at the Chris-Craft tent a 4:00 pm on Friday? We could talk '48 Deluxe following the group photo.

Great Dave, I look forward to it.

Mark, maybe we'll run into each other next September at Lake Geneva. It's too close to home to miss the ACBS International Show. Next year it will be in my back yard, Table Rock Lake in Missouri.

Catching a 6Am flight to the Sunnyland Show from Scranton PA, 6 inches of snow today and more expected tomorrow. Can't wait for some nice weather and my first trip to Mt Dora/Taverse City.

That thing is SICK!

Is it running some "TV Tommy Ivo" style side-by-side small blocks in it?

Pretty sure it originally had a pair of 2500in Packard V-12s. Now a pair of big blocks.

Please, pardon my ignorance....but Big Block 6's? Is it me or do those look like they only have 6 pipes each on them?

I'm not questioning your post really, more questioning the exhaust on those engines. How did they get 4 into 3 on each bank?

It's a pair of V-8s. Click on the photo to blow it up. You can see the valve covers. Don't know how/why they did the exhaust that way.

Seems like it must be rather under-powered with those wimpy V-8's. What happened to the Packard 12's?

The above is Miss America IX. If two Packards were not enough, maybe four would be better. Miss America X, had four, with special gearboxes. I think IXs engines ended up in X. I can't remember right off hand.

IX goes nearly 100mph with the Chevy's. I agree it would be way cooler with the correct Packard's.

It SHOULD go over 112. I am not sure how someone could possible be content with the high 90's. Must be someone who is retired and has all day to get wherever he is going!

Saw/HEARD it with the Packards years ago at Tahoe....yummy!

BTW: I don't think they were 4M 2500's; I think they were 1M or 3M's (earlier and much more rare).

The 4-into-3 exhaust system is a (common) mash-up when installing BBC's into something that may have been born with a V-12; the center ports are 'siamesed' when fabricating the exhaust manifold.
Vision without execution is hallucination.
