1954 Sportsman 8v battery -6 volt system
2nd time out with my new CC and the throttle was unresponsive and only running at 1000 rpm until it dies and battery dead. Could it be from the 8v batt and a 6v system?
Re: 1954 Sportsman 8v battery -6 volt system
Trying to charge battery up overnight following this, charger said “bad battery” and volt meter said “0”. Put different 8 volt battery in charged to 9.64 v. 3 hours later, it was down to 8.7 v. occasionally heard bilge pump. Could that be part of my problem? Got it on a trickle chat Mtge and will take it out in the morning and watch the level.

Has the charging system been re-worked to charge the 8V?

No. The system is otherwise 6 volt.

Your charging system still thinks it has a 6 volt battery.
