What is it?
I went to look at a Gar Wood split cockpit the other day and found this old triple cockpit. Any idea what it is? Some details. Single cockpit up front and large double cockpit behind the engine. High crown front deck. The entire dash has been replaced. The windshield was added but the other deck hardware looked original. As has lot of the boat. There is a Hacker tag over the steering column. The sides are blind screwed. The fuel tank fills in the center of the aft deck but the tank goes towards the Starboard side. The frames and engine stringers are lightly built. Currently has a Ford 59AB Flathead V-8. My guess would be 22' long. Didn't have a tape. Bottom had been replaced with plywood but looked like single plank.
I ran the registration and it has been reissued to a Wagemaker outboard.
ANY IDEAS??

Sea Lion? Did you buy it? Looks like an interesting find.
Boats are to be made of wood, otherwise, God would have grown fiberglass trees.

Re: What is it?
I'm going with Hacker. My 1924 had that same screw cap vent and drum light. They had no lifting ring but had a pair of cast stringer hooks under the front floor boards. I've even seen that cockpit configuration in an old Hacker ad. Windshield is not correct. In '24 they were frameless with a wood base and center post, rounded edge split glass. Bow deck had high crown with slope down from cockpit toward stem at bow. Just my $.02
Re: What is it?
I'll have to check the lifting arrangement. Iron rods with circles bent on the end are there now. I have not seen a Hacker with that cockpit configuration and high deck crown yet. Still looking. If you have photos post them

Re: What is it?
yes,the lines of the boat (straight but relatively narrow), and the gas cap seemed to suggest hacker. I think the double after seat is rather unusual, though? Brian, did anyone else make that layout? new to me, anyway.

Don,
That was a popular configuration amongst many manufacturers in the early 1920s, including Chris-Craft.

Re: What is it?
Has the same low freeboard astern as Hacker's "Fleetfoot" design from the early 1930s. Did Hacker-built boats construct with hidden fasteners? Widely-spaced topside frames are another Hacker trait. 22-24" on centers. BTW, the Fleetfoot design was availible in 22 and 24-foot configurations. At the stern, the amount of freeboard from waterline to shear is about 18 inches. Johnny liked a lot of flair, low freeboard aft and no lift rings. The "Fleetfoot" design was marketed by Brooks Boats, West Saginaw, Michigan. Catalogs are rare, but the boat is pictured therein. I have a 24-footer, and know of only one other in 22 feet. The Hacker badge may be misleading. Were Hacker-built boats serialized? The "Fleetfoot" is also mentioned in Jas. P. Barry's book, Hackercraft. CQ

Re: What is it?
Jim... Does the boat have a radiused stern like the one shown in the old ad? CQ

Yup. It's a dead ringer for the one in the ad Brian posted.

Troy are you trying to be nice so you get invited to the half off sale next year
I was able to visit the boat again this morning and answer some questions.
It has an off-set fuel tank.
No battens on the deck planking.
Has the bulkhead in the bow.
Has a Hacker tag but no numbers have been found yet.
Lift rings were added. They are iron and go to the keel.
Starboard exhaust changed for the V-8
Butt blocks look copper riveted
2 side planks run full length

Re: What is it?
Hull numbers can be hard to find on the early boats. Mostly just the loose items like floorboards, seat frames, and hatches. Sometimes you will find it on or above the port chine at the bow aft of the cutwater but that usually has been sanded off.
