1954 Riviera 20'
Good Morning all,
First let me say this is my first post on this forum, so please take it easy on the new guy . I am doing a little research on my fathers boat. I am familiar with how these forums are usually used, as I am a boat owner myself active in another forum (2014 Tige Z1). With that said, let me post the information of my fathers boat and ask the members a few questions I am hoping you all can help me with.
Dad's boat is a 1954 Chris Craft Riviera 20' boat. It is Hull #20786 (286 of the 288 made I believe?). It has the Chris Craft MBL Hercules engine in it. It (the boat) has been completely restored and taken care of. It will need to be re-caulked on the bottom I am told, but other than that, she is ready to go. My questions are as follows (again, please take it easy on me);
Based on the information I have provided and the attached pictures, what would the estimated value be of this boat?
Would it be best to re-caulk it before sell, or just knock the price down a bit to compensate?
What sites are the most active to sell these types of boats?
If there is more information needed (other than seeing it in person, which I realize would be necessary for a completely accurate estimate), please feel free to ask. Thank you in advance for whatever guidance and provide you are willing to offer.

Click on TRADING DOCK at the top of the page. It's as good as any.

Hi David, Welcome. I sent you an email concerning your boat. I also own this model and size Riviera, and am restoring it myself. I'd be happy to assist you in any way. This is a great forum, with lots of great and knowledgeable people willing to help. I type too slow, easier to converse via phone. Good Luck, Howard.....and yes, don't caulk the bottom seams.

Working on more photos. Thank you.Doug P wrote:More photos would help....but DO NOT caulk anything on that boat.
Thank you. Not quite ready to put on the Trading Dock... yet. I am looking for a general ball park price for now. It seems challenging so far as it seems to be such a wide range. There's NADA for boats of my generation, but I dont know of anything similar for the classics?drrot wrote:And block out the bilge pump activity.

Thank you Mr. Lehman. I have not received your email yet - but hopefully it will arrive soon. I would love to speak with you over the phone. I will email you my number once we are in contact via that method.Howard Lehman wrote:Hi David, Welcome. I sent you an email concerning your boat. Beautiful Boat! I suspect when she was restored the original bottom was still in great shape or a new bottom was done as original. It'll probably swell tight after she's been soaked for a couple days without having to use caulking. If the boat is to be trailored and used occasionally a no leak bottom replacement is an option. You'll have to keep an eye on it till it tightens up. Happy Boating!
