Winterizing my 1956 CC Sportsman

I an new to this so I need to be referenced to an article that explains how to properly winterize my boat. I am in the Northeast and the snow will be flying in a month or two.
ALSO I plan to have 2 coats of varnish put on it before it goes into storage. Does it matter if I winterize the boat prior to the varnish work?
