chemical stain on wood deck flooring
I knocked a bottle of Super Clean over on my wood deck, never noticed it and it ate through 14 coats of flagship 2015 varnish and left a black stain right in the middle of my floor.I stripped the varnish off around it sanded down a bit but doesn't seem to want to come out,any suggestions?

Re: chemical stain on wood deck flooring
As sodium metasilicate is one of the ingredients I would first read the MSDS sheet for the product. As it appears to be alkaline, I would try vinegar,
Re: chemical stain on wood deck flooring
Super Clean is harsh, I would try distilled vinegar, if that does not work, use Teak Wonder A & B. DO NOT USE TEKA it will eat the soft grain out of the wood. If nothing works, your boat now has a really cool birthmark that you can talk about.....

How about bleaching it?
Re: chemical stain on wood deck flooring
John I think the main ingredient in that stuff is alkaline (bleach), so an acid, vinegar should do the trick.JohnKadimik wrote:How about bleaching it?
A test with both on another piece of wood would be the first step

Well I tried the vinegar and a few other things but the stain was too deep I ended up digging the stain out with a chisel, replaced some plugs then filled the hole with layers of epoxy til it was flush then varnished it.It will do for now but may replace the board if I can find one,not sure what it is almost like douglass fir.

Not a bad job. It does look like Doug Fir.
