Re: Trying to acquire a 1957 46 foot constellation
Don is right on about this being a worth project...it is just a big one....as to the gas or diesels...diesels on that boat, twins, would be heavy, smelly, eventually shaky and hard to start in the cold....that said they are not floating bombs and last forever....tough call.....You would want to re-t...

Well since no one in the serious varnish brain trust has yet checked in....let me say that from my point of view you messed by doing all the meticulous great work....I just slap some on and Go Boating....then too...I don't have that wonderful rare boat. Re: slow leak at transom and hull join
you might very well be able to stop that one with boatlife...sets up under water...mostly....you would be best to force it in there with the caulking gun and then keep it in place with a block or brick or something until it sets up. I have actually done that on a cavalier and it lasted for years. Jo...

to expand on my clueless response: I don't know squat about this stuff but know for sure that I am not going to use fakebook. My rather rare classic boat, a Fairchild Scout 30, got a fakebook page back in the day and while I would love to be able to communicate with other owners...I am not going to ...

I would like some others to comment on this...but after reading you last post as to what happens....squeal is not something a wet disc unit really does...bearing maybe but not the disc that make it go. And as to just disengaging....well...I am more pointed back to the damper plate....especially sinc...

that vid does not tell me much....and my suggestion of damper plate is just covering all possible bases. Clearly, milky oil is the sign of trouble. Remind us all what boat that is exactly and what engine? Will she still move through the water and at what speed and duration. There are not many guys l...

Back in the day we said that Paragons had a "system" like stomachs, intestines, and kidneys....that would "pass" buckshot...whereas Borg Warner/ Velvet Drives would not pass number 9 shot....meaning that paragons were really tough and hard to kill. I just re read you symptoms are you confident you h...

Re: HF-7 pink milk
Ok, the HF-7 must have a cooler I am pretty sure. That cooler is a small heat exchanger of the capsule with tubes design. That is a smaller version of the heat exchanger on the engine if you have fresh water cooling. The ATF gets pumped around in the unit and through the heat exchanger to be cooled....

Re: Hydraulic transtran
maybe I am late to the post? But if you are talking about a Paragon Hyd. unit....it certainly can be reversed and with little ill affect....true the gearing has a sort of preferred cut to it....but you just rotate the plate and voila.

Re: Most interesting breakdowns
this one was more of a nervous breakdown...almost. So I moved my 33 foot seastrake with twins into a tight spot next to a floating work platform I intended to use to do some paint touch up on the hull. I had a flat blue polyprop line and while getting settled I just tied it to a stern cleat and one ...
