Re: 1929 Baby Gar Information
Back to the panel conversation; I have been able to locate the correct oval Reliance panel for a 1929 28-40 but had a few questions about the color of the panel and gauges as well as the ignition switch. I have seen pictures of a ‘29 Gar Wood oval Reliance panel with a white panel and black gauges a...

2) When I turn on the hot water is just spits and sputters. Fill the tank and disconnect filling on outlet side of pump to try and pull the water through. You probably have an air bubble. May need a new impeller but try getting the air out first. 3) The hot water heater will not heat. Can I replace ...

Re: M47 tach and oil pressure connection points
I'm not sure if they changed placements over the years but on earlier years the tach connects at the back of the engine just above the transmission. Oil pressure connects behind the coil.

Re: Older fiberglass hull construction, better or not?
I had great luck wit interlux Perfection above and below the waterline. Boat sat in th water all season last year and held up well. I used a roll and tip which took some practice. Use good quality tape, 2 part epoxy can eat the glue on the cheap tape and ''tis stuff does not come off once cured.

Gar Wood 1929 28'
It’s been a while since there has been any activity in the Gar Wood section so I thought I would post a few photos of the restoration progress on my 1929, 28’ Gar Wood 28-30. This project was a bit outside of my skill set so thanks to Mike at Farm River Woodworking great progress has been made. Mike...

Flitz did work well on my tag. Agree I would not use this on chrome, it is abrasive and removed some of the paint.

Re: How To Clean Manufacturers Plates
I have read that you can paint the plate with black lacquer than with a fine grit Emory cloth on a flat surface lightly sand and the raised letters will show through as the paint gets sanded off. I have not tried this yet and after seeing what Flitz does I’m going to try that first. If Flitz does no...

If ignition converted to a Pentronix 6v should spark plugs be upgraded from Copper to Platinum? I have a 1935 Chrysler, as I do my fall maintenance wondering if I should upgrade my plugs.

Re: Painting a 1958 Plywood Cavalier
I painted my 69ish Formula with a badger hair paint brush using Interlux Perfection. I am astonished by how good it came out using a good quality brush. You cannot use 2 part paints on a wood boat but I have heard the Interlux one part also comes out well with a brush or roll and tip. I tried both r...

Early Mercruiser Trim Pump
Looking for someone who rebuilds trim lift pumps in the northeast. Electric side works fine but pump side stopped working. I'd just assume replace the whole pump but it's so early that I can't find one that will work. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: Oil change on Detroit Diesel 8V-71
You will need an electric pump, engine takes 5+ gallons of oil. Most Detroit diesels have a hose connected to oil pan that pump can connect to for draining and filling. If not you can go through the oil fill tube with pump.

Re: Wet sanding
Once the final coat is sanded and buffed it does look great but do practice first to get the feel for how to buff out the sanding scratches. I burned through 12 coasts of varnish on an edge during my first attempt. One thing I found helpful was to have a spray bottle to mist the surface during the b...
