Re: Teak Decks

I looked at both the "New Teak" and real teak options for my deck. Island Teak up in BC had access to some reclaimed logs. My order did get held in customs, but was cleared.

Re: Life Line? - Cable "railing" on 66 Connie

On another note on life lines. Go with the cables with no coating. The coating can hide issues and you can go with a large diameter cable through the existing holes.

She's a 30' Connie and I'll take a mic to the shaft size next time I'm down at the dock.

Thanks,

What size packing

All,

My shaft packing keeps leaking. I have tightened up the adjustment nuts and still have a constant drip. What size is the packing on a 63 Connie? Can you repack while it's in the water?

Thanks,
Rob

Pebble Beach Chris Craft

It wasn't all about the cars at Pebble Beach this year. The below Chris Craft was for sale and did sell. It's a restored Kiddie ride.

Anyone ever seen a Philbrick?

The below boat belongs to one our mechanics at work. His grandfather bought it unfinished in 1958. Pretty cool, even though it's not a Chris. Rob http://s18.postimage.org/nusx73mmd/Woody_004.jpg http://s9.postimage.org/ewfreltnv/Woody_006.jpg http://s15.postimage.org/72vm1mrc7/Woody_012.jpg

303 Aerospace Protectant provides great UV protection. Good enough for NASA, good enough for my boat. You can use it on fabric too.

Right on for "saving" a Connie. Yes, the market sucks for the big Chris's. But, Hey I have yet to see Hearst with a Luggage rack. Enjoy all of the work.

Mike,

Thanks, we might take the drive down from Sacramento. Our Connie was actualy delivered to the Chris Craft dealer in San Rafael in 1963.

Sewing Machine

All,

I have been thinking about replacing the Delta Canvas on our 1963 30' Connie. Are there any recomendations on sewing machines? Even better, advice on the subject?

I also saw the story about the Connie that is no longer with us. I just added a fuel vapor alarm to my Connie. When fuel vapors reach 20% of explosive, the alarm will sound and the blower will kick in.

Good old block sanding prevents waves. Yes, it's all in the prep. Be carefull of filling the seams with caulk. It will just push out into the paint and look like heck.

Hey, I was looking at replacing our last boat with a nice fishing boat. Our old boat was a 19' open bow, great boat. But, she had one requirement for the new one. The new one had to have a pottie. I asked her her if she knew what that meant. So we went to the boat show and most fishing boats don't h...

Home stretch. The Rio Vista derby is in a couple of weeks and that's the last time we took her out. The "wet look" wasn't from the rain Sunday, it was just getting the dust off.

All, Still plunking away with the deck project. Of course there has been a few snags when you open up pandora's box. When removing most of the deck hardware, I just drilled out the tops of the bolts. The plan was to remove the remaining nut and shaft from the bottom side. That way I could drill from...
