Replacing Bungs + Paint - Need advice
Starting to prep the boat for upcoming season on Lake Tahoe. Noticed several bungs missing bottom side of my 1948 17' CC Deluxe Runabout. Red bottom side paint could use a refresh too. Need some advice: Process - I was thinking: a) inspecting all hull frame/wood/screws and replace what is needed. b)...

Re: Model K Engine Troubleshooting
Did you check the water filter/debris trap? These can get clogged up... in which case the water temp lowering at higher RPM would make sense. Not too sure about what you see coming out of the exhaust however. That's not good... can you elaborate?

KFL - torquing the "2" head bolts/nuts for water outlet
Hi Guys, OK. Changing this post... what do you guys use for a gasket between the water neck and the cylinder head? My configuration -- Running a KFL. Have two bolts that come through the head and up through the water neck. These 2 bolts are locked down with nuts (like all other head bolts). Thoughts...

First varnish project (new flag pole) how to for a newbie?
Well… the Lakeness Monster ate my flag pole. Got a new one. Raw mahogany. Gonna use this as an opportunity to learn how to do finish work on the boat. This will be my first “varnish project”… before I refinish boat (on my own) during the winter  Anyone got a good video/detailed process they ca...

Re: High Oil Pressure in KFL
Thx Bilge Rat.
Anyone know where I can find these gaskets? Been looking online, starting to think I may have to make them.
Is the access panel (cover) I'm looking for the one behind the dipstick in the attached screen shot?
Cheers,
L76

Re: High Oil Pressure in KFL
Thx Badger85. Found the oil leak. Bad fuel pump gasket. Still getting high oil pressure. Compression test shows 90 psi in all holes except cyl 2 (70 psi). This at 6500 ft elevation (Lake Tahoe). Put a little PB lube in the valves, retorqued heads, ran boat, retorqued heads, and... still 70lbs in cyl...

High Oil Pressure in KFL
KFL motor. See 75 psi @ 2400 RPM and higher. 45 PSI @ idle (800 RPM in neutral). Noticing a little oil in the engine bay... but cannot identify where it's coming from... Thoughts?

Re: K carburetor float level
Is it 1 19/32” for all Zenith carbs on K motors? Or is that just for Chris’ 63M2E11? My carbs have the tag B175 12. Looking at carb rebuild kit… I can’t determine which one I have!

Re: KFL won't start after it sits for 20 mins
As I’m starting to go through it… found I have 90lbs on all holes except for cylinder 2 (70 lbs). I retorqued the head to 85lbs/ft (found a few loose nuts near hole 2)… but it’s still only 70 lbs in that cylinder. Concerned I’m chasing my tail… and will end up pulling the motor and putting it in my ...

Re: Suddenly poor running, KBL
I'm new to these K motors, but in my experience... this could be ALOT of things... but it always comes back to something basic. As it was explained to me - boat motors are constantly under load (vs. car engines) - so they tend to be more sensitive to any one little thing being "out of line" than a c...

Re: KFL won't start after it sits for 20 mins
Thx Bilge Rat. I am actually a bit of an "engine guy." Just new to Chris Crafts and this new (to me) 1948 CC Deluxe Runabout (KFL motor). Re: Changes in Oil Pressure
Hi Bilge Rat, I am seeing high oil pressure (70psi at cruise, 30psi at idle). I’m new to this KFL motor… thought I’d first test to see if my gauge is accurate then adjust the pump pressure via the adjuster you mentioned. Thoughts? Anyone know where’s the best place to plug in my external gauge? Wher...

Re: KFL won't start after it sits for 20 mins
UPDATE - see my other post on low power in cylinders 4, 5, and 6. She is now running strong…albeit with high oil pressure. Think my not starting issue was condenser/hot coil.

Re: No (low) power in cylinders 4,5, & 6
Thx guys. After some deeper diagnosis… it was the back carb. Found a burr in the air horn that was causing the choke butterfly to stay closed. Modified (filed the burr) and shimmed the choke linkage, replaced some gaskets, and voila! Engine running strong… but I am witnessing high oil pressure. 70ps...

No (low) power in cylinders 4,5, & 6
Hi Guys, Re my other post on only being able to get to 1500rpm on water… I ran some tests (pull plugs one at a time while engine running) and found that I have little or no power to my back 3 cylinders (4,5, and 6). Thoughts? That second/back carb? I just rebuilt it. KFL motor with 2 zenith carbs. N...

Re: KFL won't start after it sits for 20 mins
Think I solved 1/2 of this. Dialed in more advance with distributor, realized fuel pump wasn’t providing fuel (fixed), and solved the re-start issue. Have not solved low revs under load though. Can’t exceed 1500rpm in forward. Reverse will pull up to whatever I want but it makes a lot of racket. I’m...

Hi All! New to Boat Buzz. First post! Boat runs fine (3,000 RPM on Lake Tahoe @ 6500 feet elevation)... but after I shut it off for 20 mins (or more)... it won't start. I eventually get it back running (after alot of fussing with choke/throttle... 20 mins of frustration... and *GULP* actually pullin...
