Re: what's your topside sealer?

Reviving an old thread - I just bleached and stained my '48 Deluxe using Mike Mayor's gel stains. I did chris craft post-war as well as chris craft dark for the covering boards. I intend to seal with CPES and will give the stain a few days to dry/cure while I have a dehumidifier going since it's pre...

Re: Where do I stop with the varnish at the water line

Reviving and old topic since I'm about to start the finish work on my '48 Deluxe and need to establish the waterline. I will be bleaching the boat next week, then scuffing, staining, sealing, and eventually varnishing. I'm slowly getting an idea of where the waterline is based on some of the picture...

1965 283 Spark Plugs and gap?

Hey guys - I'm going to change the plugs in my 283. I believe it's a 1965...engine number is 829482. The plugs currently in there are autolite 303's. What are you guys using for plugs and is there a recommended gap for these motors? TIA

Re: 1962 CC Skier - New to Me

What book did you order? My brother and I followed Don Danenberg's how to restore your wooden runabout and found it to be the only way to get it done for the first timer. I just looked this book up and it's $235 used in paperback?! Wow, it must be the bible for restoring wooden boats. Let me know i...

Re: 1962 CC Skier - New to Me

I ordered the Art of Loving and Caring for wooden boats. Should be here this week but will likely order more. I'm curious about the bottom. I have bottom paint on there currently but there is going to be areas that will need to be addressed. In time, I plan to do a full update to all of the wood (on...

Re: 1962 CC Skier - New to Me

Thanks, Kiitos. Any other recommendations for a first launch then? I'm going to get the motor firing soon and then after that I want to see about getting it wet to understand (1) if it's going to float alright and (2) what it's got for pain points. I know it needs some work but it hasn't been ran/fl...

1962 17' CC Skier Cover?

Hi guys - new here and have been hunting around a bunch. I'm looking for an ideal generic cover for my new to me 17 foot skier. Anyone have recommendations? I see some an Overtons but was wondering if anyone has experience on the size they like. Seemed the 17-19' v-hull cover was a bit large for an ...

Re: 1962 CC Skier - New to Me

Thanks both. Exactly what I intend on doing. Motor first (I think I need a new starter) and then I'm going to fill up the hull with water for a few days to swell up and see if anything material. Then it's likely time for the water. I plan on going through as much as I can through the end this year b...

1962 CC Skier - New to Me

Hey guys - I'm Eddy and about to be a new Chris Craft owner of a 1962 Skier. I'm a newbie to the wooden boat club and looking forward to the pains and benefits that come along with it. I've owned boats my entire life, including my current Four Winns 240 Horizon but this is a whole different area of ...
