Engine Box
I have a 1947 Gar Wood Ensign that is completely done to very high standards except for the interior of the engine box. It's a pressboard like wood and I haven't repainted it yet. It appears to have originally been painted with bilge paint. Or, for appearance should I consider lining it with something? Everything on the boat was done to original specs except the upholstery color (it's now a deep red) and it has varnished ceiling boards instead of a vinyl interior (both decisions made by a previous owner as it was half restored when I bought it.)

I lined my Chris Craft engine box with Homosote. As close to the original as you can find. I painted it in bilge color and you can't tell them apart.
It doesn't have the fire-proof rating of modern materials but it is more fire-proof than the original stuff. Works pretty good as a sound-barrier too.
It can be found at Menards.
