Chris Craft Cavalier intermittent stalling

Post by [email protected] » Sun Aug 24, 2025 7:39 pm

Looking for help diagnosing an intermittent stalling problem with my 1960 Chris Craft cavalier. It has a Chevy 283 engine. The stalling occurs intermittently and only at higher speeds. She runs at very low speeds indefinitely without stalling. I think the problem is fuel related, not ignition. The problem gets worse as the fuel level in the tank declines. With a full tank, it runs fine. I am thinking that the problem is possibly something in the tank itself. The fuel pump is only one year old. I just replaced the fuel-water separator, that did not help.

Check for rust/sediment in the tank, is there a filter other than the separator?

Also check that the tube in the tank drawing the fuel up from the bottom isn't compromised, has pin holes in it.
