Chevy 283 Cylinder head water passage

Post by jvolgarino » Thu Aug 21, 2025 7:26 am

I am rebuilding the 283 in my '62 Chris ski boat. One of the heads is cracked and I want to modify and install an automobile cylinder head in its place.
The only modification I can see that is needed is to add the water passage on one end of the head. It appears to be a 1/2 inch opening so I plan to determine the proper position, drill the hole and then tap it so a threaded brass fittings can be placed in the head. The rubber tube would then run from this passage to the exhaust manifold water passage. Has anyone done this? Any issues encountered?

Never heard of it done before, but I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work. Go for it!
