I have used a tooth pick to paint them.

Thank you both for you help. I should probably do this before I do a plumbing repair in the house!

I have tried this on other stuff. And I have tried to go back in time to figure out how they did it in the day. They would have not done one at a time. It would have been a process. I have an old one and may try this first so you dont waste a good finish on yours. I have learned that there is a wipe off part of this. Fill and wipe so to speak. The tooth pick way is the closest to filling, on drop at a time. But the wipe has to be also done. On metal I have wiped with a flat wiper. But that is the type that is embossed vs debossed. I will take a crack at it. Stay tuned.

Here is the finished product. Testers modeling paint put in with a toothpick slightly over filled. At 55 F it took 35 minutes to slightly
dry enough to wipe the surface with a very small amount of thinner without pulling all the paint out of the indentations. After wiping once I let it setup again for about 8 minutes. Finish clean up carefully. I started at 3 minutes dry time and worked my way up to 35. Obviously there was a lot of downtime waiting for the paint to dry. The hole process took 7 hours. That was a bit of a learning curve.
