oil leak
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what is causing oil to pool on the top of the cylinder head nuts?? I checked the torque on them and they are at 65 pounds.

Re: oil leak
Seems to be the head gasket problem.

Thank you for solving the mystery. I guess this is one of the reasons you keep a spare handy.

Re: oil leak
I would really look at the old gasket and see if it has any indications of why it happened. Also look at the block and the head to see what the deal is.

Re: oil leak
ok, will do. Hopefully its just the gasket. I was told the motor is low time and it hadn't been used in awhile so maybe its from sitting??? Also is there anything i should coat the gasket with or just install it dry. Thanks in advance.

Re: oil leak
No it should be copper on both sides which is soft and helps seat the gasket. Also there is an up and down side to the gasket so you need to make sure its on right.

Re: oil leak
OK thanks for the advice. There is no "this side up" on my replacement gasket. There is however one side that is smooth and the other side has ridges around the cylinder bore holes. I assume that the side with the ridges faces down and the smooth side is up??
I know assume can be a dangerous word so thanks for keeping me safe.
