thumb screw hose clamps for a k engine
GENTLEMEN, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SPEND THE ENTIRE WEEK AT BOAT THE BLUE AND WATCHED SOME JUDGING OF A FEW BOATS. A BEAUTIFUL 1941 CHRISCRAFT BARRELBACK WAS NOTED FOR NOT HAVING THUMB SCREW HOSE CLAMPS AND WAS WONDERING IF THAT WAS TRUE FOR 1941. DOING THE SAME MODEL AND WOULD LIKE TO BE CORRECT. THANKS JAKE

From what I recall, yes. Also are easier to use. The big question is. Are you doing a show boat? Part of the fun for sure is making sure its the way it was delivered. Sounds like you have a 17, I think there are some unique details about the interior, and other cool stuff.

And too get Super GEEKY, I would find out who made them. The screw part my be unique to the period, and some have a small stamp in them. Details make a difference.

Most show boats are much nicer than when delivered. Chris Craft was a volume production builder. Three or four coats of varnish and out the door. Although, it is a lot of fun mixed with a touch of madness trying for the perfection. I’m afraid my clamps won’t make the grade.

I would get more evidence to support hose clamp choice. Thumb screw clamps were used... but not all years. There are some pretty good photos in the engine brochures.

Re: thumb screw hose clamps for a k engine
The several original prewar engines I've have did not use the thumb screw clamp. They used what I would call a flip barrel bolt clamp.
Re: thumb screw hose clamps for a k engine
right. my '38 KA used that "flip barrel" too.

Flip barrel - good term. Thumb screws were postwar. The closest to Flip Barrel available now that I know of are made by Ideal, they call them Snap-Lock. I buy them from Grainger.
