How to install a wooden boat ladder
I may be buying this ladder to use on my 58 Cavalier. Can anyone show me what kind of hardware is used to install it to the boat please?

Like this. Check sizes before buying.

Re: How to install a wooden boat ladder
Thanks Jim. That was what I was thinking but they sure don't look very substantial.......... Hope I don't take a spill.... do those ladders float???
Re: How to install a wooden boat ladder
Jim: I have been told to install the screws of the attaching hardware down. It would seem stronger and more logical to me to have them above the ladder.
Should I throw logic out the window?

Jerry. That stair is for ingress and egress from a boat to a dock for a cruiser. I do not know of a stair made for your size boat.
If you have weary bones like me, sit on the gunwale and swerve your legs in or out.
You may be thinking of a swim ladder, more practical and storable....and less expensive

That was probably someone trying to sell you special tools to install it. Didn't you learn anything at the half off sale??

Re: How to install a wooden boat ladder
I have the side mounted ladder pictured in the ad. In the up position I use it as the boarding ladder and when down its a swim ladder. I think the one for sale is a transom mount. The side mount has a larger bottom platform to conform to the hull side. The one for sale could probably be modified to fit if not correct.

Re: How to install a wooden boat ladder
The ladder in the picture is from a 60's cruiser and is the side mount one...the bracket is strong enough no matter the orientation of the screws IF you make sure it goes through to a backing block or into a rib.

Re: How to install a wooden boat ladder
NOT SO...I was picking on the size of the ladder. Your boat is just fine...used to own one....you are right that you will need to tow behind...ladder floats so no barge required.

Re: How to install a wooden boat ladder
I'm glad about the floating part Greg...... I bid on it on ebay..... prolly won't get it anyhow.
