Hi there I am a new owner of a 1949 46' dcfb cruiser. What group does she belong in ???? Or is it a model in its self ?????Any info is appreiated !!!!!Thanks Chris

I managed to figure out the picture thing !!!!! lol She needs some work but is in the water I am going to get her in August to bring her up the Hudson and across the Erie to central New York. Right now she is on long island the north shore. The starboard engine is complete the port is in parts. I will need a long block crusader 350cid 270hp. This is the one style I have always wanted . I got it for the low low price of free.This is the one I have been waiting for I will restore it and retire on it,I sold the other two boats so I can concintrate on the 1949 46' dcfb only . This is the largest wooden boat I have ever owned. I will have some more photos soon, I hope. lol

I saw that boat advertised and wondered what happened to it. Now I know. Congratulations! She looks pretty hard but it is floating anyway. I love that model in the post war vintage and she'll be a real beauty when restored. I own a 1948 36 Double Stateroom Enclosed that came from Long Island as we'll. I'm sure they share some history together. Good luck with the restoration and I will look forward to following the progress.

This sounds familiar? Did a bunch of guys, multi generational crew, some family some not.....bring that thing up north there in a trip featured on one of these sites? Couple of years ago at most?

Very Nice Taz. The let ski is a brilliant. Makes for a fast getaway if thing go terrible wrong when you fire up an ancient cruiser.

We have added to the flotilla now, we're up to two 3 seaters now! It's to cure my go fast itch while we go slow in our cruiser. They also serve to remind me of my true age rather than the kid I think I still am, we are usually sore the next day from too much hard riding and wave jumping!

You are thinking of me and my boat. A twin to this one, but a 1947 version. Here is the story of that trip. I am on the Hudson 30 miles north of New York city, so give me a shout when you are heading up the Hudson. I can show you what I did with my boat and compare notes. It is a great boat.

Jeff i look forward to stopping by when we head up the Hudson w/ our Dcfb cruiser . I read your story sounds like a good trip you had. I can not wait to do the our trip we are currently working on our crew I have six of us interested in going . We will leave NortPort Long Island and head up the mighty Hudson to Waterford NY to the great Erie canal all the way to Syracuse area on the Erie canal wich is about halfway on the waterway . I have done the trip before w/ another wood vessal, all my boats where wood except for the roamer.Thanks for the invite Chris.Check out my profile under Lady Mahogony to see more photos.

A good friend of mine had a 1947 DCFB back in the 60s. Very nice boat. He re-powered with 285 HP Chrysler 413s and that made that boat into a serious cruiser. Easy 19 mph cruise on about 22 GPH. We even water skied behind it one afternoon it was that fast. We used to cruise with them in our 30 and later 34 ft Sea Skiff cruisers.

SO I think I get to claim the cruiser maddness as I have a 1967 35ft Sea Skiff Corinthian here on Lake St Clair, not far from Captn Taz. I've had her for 26 years. You can't beat her for the perils of Lake St Clair.

I think I am infected with cruiser madness . I was raised as a child on a wooden cruiser . I owned my own first wood cruiser a 1929 ACF 28ft as a teen ager . There has been many large wooden cruisers over the years sometimes two at a time ,recently I owned three at one point. I definently have the cruiser bug bad . I will admit the latest 1949 46' DCFB is probally one of the last if not the last one!!!!!!!!!

Well, it is a great size boat, perfect for living aboard. If you fix her up, she will be all you need. And once you get her to protected waters, it will be a perfect river and canal boat. Best of luck with her and stop by when you pass by Stony Point!

Looks like we are waiting till spring for the big trip up the Hudson river . I have gotten sick so I had to put my trip on hold wich sucks but what can you do. i will keep you all updated as spring approaches.

Should i stay with the 350cid crusaders or try to find original factory six chris crafts or does it not matter for my restoration that begins this summer ???Just tossing the idea around I still needb the archive packet for the specs. Give me your oppinions guys???? Thnx Chris

It would have been great if my 1948 cruiser had its original perfectly restored Chrysler Crowns still in it when I bought it, but it didn't. She had twin 350 Marine Power engines in decent condition and nicely installed. If I blow an engine or repower, I'll stay with the reliable and common 350's. The Chrysler Crowns are long gone.

Don't know what she had to begin with, like you say, I would have to research the hull card.

W's are getting hard to find parts for. If it has something in it that works, I would stick with it.

Your '49 DCFB was probably launched with a pair of W six cylinder engines. '49 is before the strengthend WB. Still, a WB is only 200 HP and not really enough to get the hull to perform. It will be a lot more acomodating as a cruiser with a pair of 300+ engines.

The Essential Guide lists twin WR's or Chrysler RM8's in the originals. If she has 350's now, it would be much more practical to stay with them. Although it may be nice to have original power, it's doubtful that it would add much to her value in the future.

I am thinking at least i can get anything i need for the 350crusaders . I have a crusader dealer locally and that means a saved boating weekend or vacation should an engine goes down. They are 270hp each that should be plenty of power (at least that is what I am thinking) :D :D :D I am thinking also ease of maintnence n practicality they are closed water cooled.
