First, welcome to the board. Second, there are a couple of great restorers in the PNW. So your lucky there. Thirdly, do you have any pictures of your boat? That will help with what info the folks on here may be able to offer.

You are lucky. Puget Sound is the home of the largest fleet of CC cruisers around. There will be lots of people here who can help you. I just sent you a private message as to this. I think there will be quite a bit of interest on the boat buzz in following your progress. Please consider posting items as you work thru the process of dealing with your boat.

I do know of a good surveyor for old CC's in the Seattle area. Even though a survey is typically done before a boat is purchased, it could definitely still help you in coming up with a list of priorities. This guy knows his stuff and what to look for on these boats...

Laclede - Congratulations on your purchase! I saw your boat on the Seattle Craig's list and loved it, really like the black hull. We have a very active chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society here in Seattle. We are currently getting ready for the Seattle Boat Show and will have a booth there from this Friday the 25th until February 3rd. You should try and stop by sometime and talk with our members, lots of very knowledgeable people and will be able to put you in contact with someone for anything you need. Bring pictures and info of your boat if you come.

We usually meet the second Wednesday of the month at the Center for Wooden Boats at the south end of Lake Union. Beer and Pizza and talk about wood boats.

Would love to see you there at one of our meetings.

What a fabuloous find, wow. This is a very rare boat I suspect. I am looking in the Chris Craft Essential Guide by Jerry Conrad and I am having trouble sorting out exactly what model it is. There are no 1940 CC's listed at 45'. It could be a 1941 44' Double Cabin cruiser (built in 1940 but delivered as a '41?)It is hard to tell from the photo's. Do you have the HIN (Hull Identification Number)? If so, this will tell us all exactly what model it is. There were 24 of the 1941 44' built, and probably very few remaining.

Best of luck on this, it appears to be a superb project. Please keep us all up to date with pictures, etc. You'll find a very keenly interested group on this site.

Are you absolutely sure of the 45' length? The HIN number will remove any doubt about which model it is. Also, the package you get from the Mariners Museum (for which you need to hull number) will likely provide you with much of the desired information. The first step in figuring out the original interior appointments will be to confirm with certainty the model of boat you have. A few more pictures might help but the HIN will be definitive. I think it is likely a 44' 1941, built in 1940 but just a guess. I don't think CC built custom boat sizes, but they would customize interior features to order if the customer was willing to pay. This was an expensive boat in it's day and perhaps it was customized. This will be an interesting bit of detective work.

there were 17 48' motor yachts built in the 1939-41 period, and 9 55' motor yachts built during the same period, according to the Chris Craft essential guide. So yours may not be the absolutely largest cc made, but is close and the numbers remaining are quite limited. Once you determine the model, it will be easier for us to help you see if there is another one of the same model still out there that can be helpful in determining original features, etc. As mentioned, often the interior layouts were customized during construction. In any event a great boat.

I have personally looked through every single pre-war photo in the Mariner's Museum archive.

There are a ton of cruiser shots that most people have never seen. they are arranged by model.

your best bet is to contract Patti at the MM and;

1. Verify your hull number and model
2. Ask for B&W photo copies of all the pics in the file for your boat and or pics of other models within the same year or two.

I would recommend you join the MM organization to support their efforts to provide you materials.

Once you have them you can determine which pics will be most helpful in your research and then order the actual B&W prints.

You will be amazed at the detail and quality of the original prints.

Hope this helps

Beautiful boat but I'm guessing it doesn't move very well with the props sitting in the cabin.

Neat o. If your boat is a 42' double cabin cruiser, the hull number sequence would be 40606 to 40645. Maybe there is a cruiser guy reading this who can tell you where to look for hull numbers. Usually CC plastered them all over the place.

The quickest place is on the hatch covers over the motors.
