I am trying to locate a source for the #8-32 Chris Craft "PM" (Press Metal) nuts they used to secure the lapstrake siding on the 60's vintage boats?

These are approximately 3/8" square (.490" measured) silicone-bronze material, .050" thick with a shallow curve and the corners slightly bent down to bite into the wood to prevent rotation.

It is possible they were just stamped with a punched hole and a self tapping screw was used. The inside of the screws are cut off to be flush with the nut after it was tightened so I can't tell if it was a thread cutting screw or not.

I am in the process of replacing some planks on my 1965 Sea Skiff. Your post has raised questions in my mind. On my project they used regular nuts that I assume are held by tightening the bolt drawing the nut into the wood plank?? (not the square ones like in your pics). Any issues using SS fasteners? :?:

The 316 stainless T-Nuts would work (I'd have to use 316 screws to match) but they are larger and wouldn't look anything like the original. These are all exposed on the inside of the boat so I'd prefer to keep them original looking. I am restoring a 1964 CC Cavalier Dory, 22'.

Jim, are these exposed on your boat? Do you have a picture?
