Can someone help direct him to the casting company in algonac that cc used that still has a number of the old molds? I believe there was an earlier article on it in the brass bell?

Re: Casting number for 1930 model 100 strut
I may be if the two struts I have are not correct. I have 700009 and 1166 maybe (hard to see)
I have access to another model 100 same boat, that strut has a different shape and size. I'm not able to get a casting number yet.

Here is what the strut looks like on another model 100. The base size is 150mm long and 125mm wide.

Re: Casting number for 1930 model 100 strut
The company that did the original castings for CC is still in business. I purchased a replacement strut for my boat from them in 2015 and they were very helpful. Here is their contact info:
Algonac Marine Cast, LLC

Factory:
9300 Stone Road
Algonac MI 48001

I don't know if they can identify the correct strut based on boat model, I had the part number for mine.
Good Luck,

You have to have the casting number for the foundry to see if they have one.

Re: Casting number for 1930 model 100 strut
Is it possible to use a different strut other than what was originally on the boat? This boat is getting new stringers and a 283 engine.

You will need a strut with the same angle to line up with the shaft log. Unless you will be replacing the keel and drilling a new log, it will need to be very similar to the original. Watch for rudder clearance too.Jim Godlewski wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 6:25 amIs it possible to use a different strut other than what was originally on the boat? Boats are to be made of wood, otherwise, God would have grown fiberglass trees.

Re: Casting number for 1930 model 100 strut
I do need to drill a new hole in the keel although I have one shaft log and hopefully that one is correct.
I have another photo of a strut off John K's model 100 although no casting number on it.

At no little risk to my life and limb, I braved entered my lake and was immediately beset by small fish, probably piranha. I was able to read the casting number on the strut of Moxie. 6005WF. I will try to post a photo.

Wow Jim! You went above and beyond the call of duty!
I hope the piranhas didn't do you in.
I owe you for this one.
Thank you!

Jim,
Were you lost? Are you sure you were under the correct boat? 6005 is for a 17' Sportsman and several Cavaliers. Pre-War would be a smaller number.
I probably have a 6005 if you want to try it.

Re: Casting number for 1930 model 100 strut
Interesting. This is the strut that was on the boat when I bought it 30 years ago and it had the original Chrysler engine. Now it has the 350 and seems to be just fine. Except for that broken shaft thing at Tavares this year. That’s all I’ve got.
