1950 U22 Stern facing seats behind front seats - any idea?

Post by dmcmillan » Wed Jun 20, 2018 2:39 pm

I am trying to find photos or brochures an aft-facing seating option for the 1950 U-22. The seats were installed on the back of the two front seats and were designed to look like the front seats. If anyone has seen this option, I would be much obliged.

Pretty sure it was added later. The factory optional third seat faced forward and was not very comfortable. Have seen several seats like you mention but all were recent additions.

Jim is right. it was an option and worked.. Thats all we can say good about it. You do have options.
1. Wicker chairs that face aft. There are some out there. Photo is in a 25 Sportman, but the chairs work
2. In the factory accesory catalogs you could also purchase Director folding chairs. Which are a nice idea since its sometimes you want it.
3. The more bold solution is to customize the area and do the 25 Sportsman treatment on it. They are out there and look fantastic.
4. the iconic u22 Thayer IV in the film On Golden Pond, used simple folding wood chairs. This is for fishing and not riding around. But looks cool as well

Matt,
Thanks for the great ideas.
I think one of these ideas would likely be a better choice.

Here is a custom made seat in one of my U-22s. Comfy and has storage in the base. Also on the correct side to open the engine box, unlike the factory optional seat. You could probably buy a couple dozen of those chairs Matt shows for what it cost.
