Bilge Paint

Post by Lazybeaver » Sun Oct 02, 2011 9:59 am

I am getting back to restoring my 1946 CC 17' Deluxe. it seems there is a product that claims to be the authentic mahogany bilge paint from my past conversations with some suppliers. I will post a picture of the original color that I got off of a batton on the back side of the interior which never saw the light of day . Very well preserved ORIGINAL for early production 139 hull. I have exhausted my search and have not been able to find a match. the darker color may be original CC color but not for 1946. Any info would help to a supplier with this color.

thanks

I personally am not sure where Sandusky got that color from. Classic Boat connection used to sell a paint that was very good for post war. Call them and ask for the flat version.

Hope that helps

I go to my local Sherwin Williams store and have them match the color with there enamel. You just have to make them work for you a little and tell them that they need to also match the sheen with flatting agent. I have been doing this for years with out fail of any kind and saving a lot of money for customers. You also have a better control of what you want and you then can get it anytime you need more.

I have to agree, I'm not plugging Sherwin Williams but They are fantastic at matching paint and stain colors.

Bilge paint

I talked with Paul at Sandusky Paint. Seems the bilge paint is a special formula for the bilge and he is custom matching my original color from a pc I sent to him that had never seen the light of day. So I will have the correct color and sheen for the boat at the time it was manufactured in the plant. Very nice customer service from Paul.
