Has anyone ever mixed Penetrol with Epiphanes?---Results? I've used it with other varnishes and liked the results. Just curious about Epiphanes.

Never thought of it, but looks like a good method. What varnishes have you used it with and what %.

Been doing it for 20 years. Works great with the clear gloss and okay with the one for teak that you don't have to sand between coats.

Years ago I used Valspar and added Penetrol. I only go a max of about 10%. Here in Florida it really helps when it is hot. Periodically I'd add a little more if the vanish seemed to start tacking a little faster.

I learned about Penetrol back in the early 1960's. Freddie Richmond owned a Trumpy houseboat and had a Bahamian fellow named Rufus who maintained the boat. One day I was at the marina where my dad kept our Sea Skiff and Rufus was laying on varnish and it flowed like velvet. I asked how he got the varnish to flow out like it did and his response, Oh man, you got to use Penetrol!

My Dad always used it with Valpar back in the day and now I use it with Epiphanes. I also use it to remove chalk and bring color back to old colored gel coat. I apply it with a scotch brite pad and let it sit a couple days. Then wash and buff it out with 3M.

keep posting on this interesting subject....like to hear other experiences. Penetrol is good stuff used correctly.

I quit using Penetrol after a bad experience when spraying a metal roof with red oil based roof paint....turned out splotchy....bad.
What happened I think was I failed to mix it thoroughly on a couple of reloads of the spray gun....came out looking like camo.

Feel certain it was my prep not the product.

I have never used Penetrol. May try it with my Flagship, even though it seems to flow like glass already.

Troy can never get all of the wood out of his veins. I think he's 50/50 with wood/fiberglass ratio, but hasn't fully committed to the dark side yet.
