Where to buy a 1962 Paragon manual transmision O-ring seal

Post by rslingerland » Wed Apr 13, 2016 1:43 pm

Dear Forum Members,
I am one O-ring seal away from being able to fire up a completely refurbished 1962 283 R-15 engine with a manual Paragon transmission, but I am stymied by the shaft seal at the back of the transmission housing. ClassicBoat Connection has sent my mechanic two seals whose diameters are too small, and now have gone offline. The serial number of the correct seal I'm pretty certain is 4P2242. Can you suggest another venue that might stock this seal that keeps oil from leaking out around the shaft?
Thanks,
R Slingerland

Maybe Jim Staib or VanNess can help. Who made the seal? You may be able to find one by dimension and sealing material by checking National Industrial Seals PDF presentation. This is a science all its own when it comes to determining sealing material compatability with lubricants and service demands. CQ

In my experience, especially if as you say this is supposed to be the correct one, those seals are really tricky to install....always appears as if the seal is too big to fit into the groove....but careful tap and press and light oil and heavy luck....most of the time they go in and work.

If Van Ness can't help, Federal Marine Transmission in Countryside, IL was a huge help getting me parts to rebuild a 1960 manual Paragon. 708-352-2200. They were more helpful than Great Lakes Power.
