Mechanic Recommendation

Post by iamallthumbs » Wed Sep 24, 2014 9:33 am

I am located in Northeast Wisconsin and in need of a reputable mechanic to work on my 1947 K engine. I have local feelers out but no luck so far. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic, preferably in Wisconsin?

Mike,
Visited Manitowoc Motor Machine yesterday. 2308 Franklin st. Was VERY impressed. They are a machine shop but might be worth a trip down there to talk with them. I'm sure they know who the good mechanics are.

It's not whoever left this in the oil pan of a KL

Jim, If that's a Snap On, it was probably Troy.

Doug, I talked with Wolter's and they are not interested. They only work on industrial motors and had no recommendations for other mechanics. I will check out Manitowoc.
Thanks

I finally found a mechanic to work on BOOMER's transmission and motor. He started to take the transmission apart and found that the output shaft is broken about 3 inches in from the coupling. I have a feeling that the shaft was broken before I bought the boat and it would spin the shaft until the rear seal worked out separating the two pieces of the shaft. The Paragon manual identifies a broken shaft as the fifth item to check if the drive shaft does not turn. The shaft is 1.25" in diameter.

I find it amazing that the shaft can break. Has anyone else had such a problem and if so, do you know the cause of the break? Could a grounding with the prop be the reason?
