Carburetor Flame Arrestor Gasket

Post by farupp » Thu Apr 25, 2013 11:11 am

My Sea Skiff has a 283 engine with a Rochester 4GC four barrel carburetor. The hard rubber gasket that sits on the carburetor flange between the carburetor air intake and the flame arrestor has cracked and broken. See picture #2. I need a replacement or a flame arrestor with a 4.25" base to mount on the carburetor flange.

The only identifying mark on the gasket is MW 3041. The inside diameter of the carburetor mounting flange is 4.25” and the diameter of the base of the flame arrestor is 5.25”. The gasket sits firmly on the base of the arrestor and which sits on the carburetor flange, sealing the air intake such that all the combustion air passes through the arrestor to the carburetor.

Here are some pictures:

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement 5.25" to 4.25" air intake gasket? Alternatively, where might I find a marine flame arrestor with a 4.25" base to mount on the carburetor flange?

Thanks.

That looks like an adaptor for large cleaner/arrestor-to-small throat carbs. Used to be these were availible at automotive speed shops. Cannot recall the brand name. Check Summit or Jegs on-line catalogs. CQ

Great idea, CQ. It is an hard rubber large to small adapter. I'll check those places and some others.
I wonder what others with the Rochester 4G carburetor use for a flame arrestor?

It used the same flame arrester that the carters used. CC went to the round ones in 1965.

CQ, both Summit and Jegs had the adaptor. $9 including shipping. A new one is on the way.
Thanks again for the idea.
