Temp Gauge Not Working

Post by tparsons56 » Sat Jul 01, 2023 6:14 am

The temp gauge on my Chris Craft M has decided to quit working this season. It has the sensor on the head connected to the gauge with a metal [copper?] connection. Any suggestions of things to look for in finding the problem?

Where I live the engine temp never gets over 100 till fall. First thing I would do is remove the bulb from the cylinder head and warm it up with a hair dryer.

OK - Thanks. I will try out the hair dryer and see if the works.

I finally got a chance to test the bulb end attached to the cylinder head with a hair dryer and still no results on the gauge. I also tried warming the wire close to the gauge to see if that had any effect but that also didn't move the needle so I guess it's the gauge. At this point in the season I will monitor the temp with an infrared thermometer and wait until this fall to send the gauge in for testing.
