Sherwood L9980 brass impeller pump

Post by Jimjowers » Sat Aug 20, 2022 8:26 am

Hello all, new member here with a question about the Sherwood brass dual pump.
The boat is a 1955 Sedan Flybridge with twin fwf 283’s. The motors are freshly rebuilt and I want to be sure of the coolant circulation but I can find nothing online or in manuals to tell me which of the 4 ports are in/out?
I’m using standard 3 pass exhaust logs and a heat exchanger for fresh water (glycol) cooling of the motors and the circulation remains standard.
I’ll try to load some images of the pumps in question:

My assumption was that the 2 ports with the elbows attached are “IN” but would like to be sure.
I’ve also read somewhere that the lower ports are “IN” but one would then need to be sure to mount the pump in the correct orientation, and with 4 symmetrical mount bolts there are 3 chances to get it wrong!

Many thanks, Jim
