Water Pump Gasket

Post by gallagh59 » Sat Nov 27, 2021 3:04 pm

Engine: 283cu.in. flywheel forward 185hp.......... Is there suppose to be a "GASKET" between the water pump and the generator? Just removed my pump and it looks like there might have been one on there at one time.... Thanks

Hi, I just checked a Chris Craft parts book I have for the 283 flywheel forward engines and they do not show a gasket between the water pump and the rear of the generator. There should not really be a need for a gasket in that area anyway since that part of the drive for the water pump is dry. Your pump should have a weep hole in the nose of the water pump to let any water out if the front seal of the pump would start to leak/weep water.
