327F possible wrong dipstick?

Post by lftmx3 » Thu Sep 19, 2019 8:40 am

If overfilled, will a 327F weep oil from somewhere? If I fill to the full line on the stick, I get oil in the bilge. It stops leaking somewhere just before the low line. Boat runs fine otherwise, oil pressure good, no more leaking after cleaning up the initial mess... The dipstick seems like it is missing a handle or knob on the end, sometimes I have to use pliers to grab and pull it out. Could it be the wrong stick, or do I have bigger issues?

It could be. The F series had a special upper tube that went between the manifold and the engine.

Post some pictures of it and the engine were the dipstick goes.

I have a Chris Craft 327 that I will be removing as it is not correct for that boat (not even close!). I can measure the dipstick tomorrow and let you know the length from the stop on the stick to the end.

That would be great, thanks! I’ve been wondering about this for a long time.

Here's the pics. The length from the tip to the stop that seats on the tube when all the way in is 21 3/4". This is from a 327 where the dip stick tube is between the exhaust manifold and the valve cover as in your pictures.

Thanks for all the pics, I'll measure it later, but it seems to match. Mine just appears to have the handle broken off, which may explain over filling... not pushing it into the tube far enough.
