KLC Oil Cooler Bypass

Post by Trick414 » Sun Jun 30, 2019 6:45 pm

Hey all!

FINALLY! I've got my boat running and in the water.

1951 Riviera. KLC Engine.

I bypassed the oil cooler since it was leaking water.

Apparently, the gaskets I cut didn't work all that well.

Anyway, the question is: can I run it this way lightly to shake out some of the other issues?

Naturally, I can just let it leak a bit (it's not much), and run it that way, but I was wondering how bad it would be to run it without it while I set the timing and carb????

I'd post some pics, but that seems to be a no go these days.

Here's a link if it works...

Don't mind the boot stripe being wrong, that's another story...

Thanks!

There are others on this site who have way more knowledge than me, but I would say you should be ok. The oil does not get that hot that fast.

This may be old news because your post was a while Ago but with modern oil’s you don’t need the oil cooler at all.

That's interesting, I was wondering about that.

Of course, I'm just running straight 30 weight, not anything special. But I guess it's still probably better than the 30 weight they had in the 50'S???

Thanks!
