Prestolite Alternator

Post by drginseng » Tue Jul 29, 2014 11:35 pm

My regulator went out for my Prestolite ALE 5202 alternator. I'm researching putting a one wire alternator in to eliminate the extra crap and to increase amps for quicker charge time. Any feedback?

I replaced my regulator with a single wire unit last year, and have been very pleased

Where did you find your alternator?

my alternator shop rewound the old one as a single wire, actually I don't think the change is in the winding but the diode circuit.

The change is in the regulator and field. The regulator is moved inside the end bell and its connected to the field brushes internally.

Thanks for the info I found two one-wire alts for a reasonable price. Should be here soon.
