Riviera bolt holes??

Our 54 Riviera 18 has two bolt holes in the 3"x3" board just in front of the gas tank with matching holes in the rib just below it. There are washer indentations so there were bolts through it at one time. I've seen others with the holes and at least one with bolts installed (nuts on top so must have been installed before planking). Anyone know what the purpose the holes/bolts served?

I rebuilt a 16' Riviera a few years back but dont remember seeing anything that would match your description, could you post a picture?
