I am finally at the stage of fitting the prop shaft support strut to the rebuilt hull of my Capri. It was held by 4 bronze bolts through the king plank.
I want to know if it is best bedded in a resin to evenly distribute the strain across the support flange.
What is normally done to seal the flange and the bolt holes.
Thanks, Peter

Re: Prop Shaft support strut
Sika-Flex or a polysulfide caulk of some sort will work fine. Don't use 5200, if you ever have to take it off it will be nearly impossible.
Boats are to be made of wood, otherwise, God would have grown fiberglass trees.

Thanks for that. I suspected that 5200 would not be the go.
While at it I have another question.
The rudder gland and bearing is fitted from inside the hull and two 3/8 brass bolts with rounded heads with square shank (coach bolt?) are inserted from the outside of the hull. It seems to me that it is likely that the heads will compress the timber and maybe come loose with use. Is this the usual way to install the rudder bearing?
FYI, I bought the Capri about 20 years ago from Boyds Boats in the NE somewhere and had it shipped to Aust. It was a project boat - all there but very rotten. It has taken me that long to remake the hull and I am on the final stages - I hope.
Regards

Yes, that is the way they fastened them. Just don't over tighten them. When the wood swells the bolts will stay tight. Keep up the good work.
