'56 Continental 18'. Replacing (2) 2 foot sections of bottom side by side plank. The hull uses 1/2" plank over plywood liner. The plywood is good. Do I need to treat the new wood before installation? Theses planks are side by side . How much gap between planks ? Can I use 5200 to secure replacement planks to existing planks at tne ends?

Hi, When you go to replace two adjacent planks, make sure the butt ends don’t fall too close together. I like to see the ends at least two frames away from the adjacent ends. You may end up replacing more than two feet of one of them, depending where the others fall.
All sides of new planks should be sealed before installation.
I try to keep the gaps pretty uniform to the others. If the new material is crazy dry you might leave a little more gap for expansion. You can use 5200 but don’t expect to ever get that joint apart again. That stuff is tenacious.
