Reflections on my Sea Skiff after first weeks use

Post by Oberon01 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:58 pm

Well, I put my 1965 24' in at Lake Dora 12 days ago. It showed 117 original hours on the clock and now, nearly 2 weeks later, it is 139. What a fabulous boat these are! I have used it in all kinds of weather, including a torrential downpour for 40 miles on the the St. John river tour, lots of slow crusing and as a photography platform. It really is a superb choice for a utlity craft. we hauled 9 people in it to a picnic last Friday and there was plenty of space.

It is smooth, roomy and has speed enough for most purposes. Great foul weather boat and I doubt I will ever be without one. It wilol be my go-to boat, no question.

Sounds like an outstanding boat. She sure did rank high among your excellent collection. Glad to hear...

That boat is a rock star. We will be looking for one soon as well. It was a Tank that looked good, was user friendly, easy to repair, just good all around. It helps to have great owners of the boat as well. Paul and Karen are perfect for it.

Paul, Kabot's Habit is not only a great looking Sea Skiff, she's a real work-horse. Here's what she looks like with 9 people on board:

And cruising the Dora Canal:

Thanks for bringing her, she's a keeper...

Sea Skiffs are great boats. We use our on Charleston Harbor and it has always been very stable. And, it does hold lots of people and "refreshments" and gets us around very quickly.

I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

I look forward to seeing several others at Lake Hartwell in a few weeks.

BHey, you're preachin' to choir here. I grew up on these things And I absolutly love my Dragonfly.Stable, dependable and beautiful to boot. Last year, while on a poker run a freak storm blew up on Lake Dillon. All boaters either went for the coves or back to the docks. My son and I continued the poker run, in the lead, which is very unusual for my Skiff @ 9000 ft. My wife was at the docks bringing boats in and tying them off. We had one swamped by following water and another lost power and blew into a moored sailboat. Both made it back safely, if not a little shaken. Maggie was asking everybody, "where the hell are Peter and Dallas?" Finally, one of our members said,"they're comin up the Blue river like a bat outta hell, don't worry about them!" On our way back we were able to assist in a sailboat that had tipped, got our last card and back to the marina. Was it hairy? YEP. Was I worried? Maybe a titch. But, I remebered coming back in a storm w/ my dad, off the coast of New Jersey and thinking , this is not as bad as that, so my son and I just kept her on top of the water and she performed beautifully. We returned to the dock to a hero's welcome, and as my son said, "the most fun I've had legally with my pants on, ever!" Yep I love these boats!
