Boat Buzz

I'm at the point in my restoration where I am replacing the bottom frames on my 16' split cockpit. I noticed that alternating frames are different thickenss. Frames start at 7/8 inch then alternate to 1 1/8inch then the next back to 7/8. Is this correct or should all frames be 7/8?

What year is the boat and I will look up the specs to see if they are different.

Its a 1935 16-35 Split Cockpit.

That's interesting. I have the same problem, but there is no pattern that I can figure. Some are the 7/8", some are 1", some inbetween. I'm making them all the same thickness in the long run though. Because some of my frames also did not fit tightly in their spots. I'm guessing on the assembly line they cut the notches to one size and then just put the frames in their respective spots.

it’s not me. I purchased the original plans for the Gar Wood Speedster (same hull) from the Antique Boat Museum. At some point in the boats life, all the Intermediate frames were removed and replaced with 1 1/8 inch auxiliary frames. Boat must have weighed a ton! I have replaced the frames back to proper specs with 7/8 inch oak.
