1941 C/C buckskin vinyl

Leather, Tolex or Russaloid. Linoleum or black rubber matting. If it's in the cockpit or in the cabin, post your questions and answers here.

1941 C/C buckskin vinyl

Don, Don & Al: Do you know of a source for an accurate reproduction tan / buckskin vinyl that would have been used on a 1941 Deluxe runabout? Thanks, Bill

Generally speaking, i think the '40 had the pigskin russaloid, while the 41-42 had the aquamarine. (Do you have your hull card?) For a long time, the pre-war russaloid was not available, so people tended to use leather of the corresponding color if they wanted the correct look. I think i read somewhere that someone is now making a russaloid-like material, but i am not sure who. No doubt someone reading this will know. I have seen boats with a vinyl upholstery that tried to match the pigskin, but it was off color, so you need to beware if you are going for originality of look. The wrong shade stands out like a sore thumb.

Bill, i just checked the cabin interior section of the buzz and there are extensive discussions there. Might want to peruse all of that, including the one titled "Russaloid?" Good luck. I definitely suggest you find an original (ideally out of the sun) part of the original pigskin to use to match anything you might want to consider using.

If you looking for the pigskin leather you could try Macatawa Bay they may have some. I can have some made from my supplier if you want to go with leather. It really isn't pig skin because they use cow hide and color it and then give it texture to mach a pig hide. Do you have the hull card because I thought that the only ones that came with pigskin was the boats with the burnt orange deck strips and waterline.

Yes, macatawa's "pigskin" is about as close as one can get to the original. Not inexpensive, however.be prepared for that.
