Jet Drive Jacuzzi brand and modifications

Post by seabuddy » Fri Dec 11, 2015 9:01 am

Did Chris Craft use the YJ Axial flow Jacuzzi Jet Drive for both the Chris Craft 350 cu. in. and the Guardian 400 HP 454 cu. in. engine options in the XK-18 manufactured in 1971-73?

Has anyone rebuilt one back to stock?

Has anyone rebuilt one with upgrades to take advantage of the speed potential with the 400 HP Guardian?

Any speed numbers to report?

Just search "Pumpkin" on WoodyBoater.com.

Thanks for the quick reply,

but I am looking for

specific Jacuzzi Jet Drive as used by Chris Craft info. Info on the Jacuzzi model number and if it is different for the small block versus the big block application. Reports/comments on stock, rebuilt, modified pumps for this application.

The most knowledgeable guy I know regarding CC jet drives in Matt Fine (AKA m-fine).

I would recommend that you search the member directory and message or e-mail him.

I am of little help. The Jets I know are the 1950's and early 60's Buehler and Hamilton axial pumps. The one thing I can tell you is when I rode in Pumpkin a couple years ago, it was hitting tops speeds in the low to mid 50's with two people, but based on the engine RPM, they still had not gotten it tuned yet and I was fairly certain there was a LOT of horse power left to be tapped.

You could also check with Rob Lyons at Antique Boat Center. I believe he has done quite a bit of research on the XK-18's.
