paragon prop coupler help

Arrgh.

Since i rarely have luck with the search feature i will shoot this out for advise:

I am in need of a paragon prop shaft coupling. Paragon made one transmission with this coupler and I have it. What I would do to have a borge warner! Not to mention Velvet Drive is the coolest name ever issued to a piece of machinery.

Prop coupler:

1 !/4 prop shaft diameter.

5" flange diameter.
4 each 1/2" bolts spaced 4 1/8" center of holes measured diagonally.

2 1/4" height or length.

and the coup de' tat! pilot diameter 2 7/8"

The pilot is the deal killer. This is the raised ring that mates up to the coupler on the transmission coupler and must match up.

I have spent 7 days calling everyone. Does anyone have a milk crate full of these in their garage?

Can I change the paragon tranny output coupler to a more standard velvet drive?

to the best of my knowledge the tranny is a PM 15 and the paragon pn for the coupling is 16736C. direction of rotation is right, as the pilot sees it.

If anyone falls into this situation Tony at (Marine sales or marine transmissions?) in Ft Lauderdale 800-462-8848. He has the last one in world. $280.00 list price. ppt has one for 269.00.

Its a tough call weather to machine a bushing in the worn out shaft ID. the machine work will probably cost more?

One other option is jim at federal 708-352-2200. he has a flex coupler for 279.00.

May I never forget that a 1980 boat is still 32 years old and an antique. Where did the time go? seems like 1980 was yesterday...

so you don't feel like you're rambling to yourself alone in this 'room,' I'll say something to reinforce your sanity.

I have no input to your problem though unfortunately. I have paragon velvet's too and love the name as well.

I spent some time looking for your coupler. Found some similar but the 2 7/8" centering ring was on none of them. It's odd for sure.

I'd get the new flex coupler. They cut down on vibration and help protect your transmission (absorb shock) if the prop hits something. I don't have a "Velvet Drive" but have had flex couplers on two boats, including my current Sea Skiff, and they work great.
