Take the production numbers as a proximity rather than exact figure. According to the essential guide, my 19 Lancer doesn't exist. It's several numbers past the supposed end of production.

Chris-Craft built Lancers in the Holland, MI facility into 1978. Dick Genth was brought on board in August, 1978 and one of his first moves was to end their production. Don't know the story of why the records for these boats were not included in the files kept in the Pompano Beach headquarters before Genth closed it too.

The Mariners' Museum Archival Collection includes records from the beginning (1922) through the end of 1977. The 1978 hull cards were not included in the records given to the museum by Chris-Craft Industries in 1985, almost 4 years after they sold the boat division to Murray Industries, Inc.

Chris-Craft - The Essential Guide is based on all of the records that were delivered to the museum.

Lancers were built in the new- to- Chris Craft Cortland, New York plant, the "Corsair Division Plant", built after the purchase of one of the Thompson Boat Companies located there.

As I recall the stute of limitations figured in the decision not to deliver records after 1977 to the MM

Wilson, thanks. That explains the cut-off. The 1978 and newer records must have been retained by (or delivered to) Murray Industries at the time.

Bret, I can't find any dates when operations at the Cortland, NY facility ended but in 1976 Chris-Craft only had 4 remaining production facilities (that built boats). They had to have been Chattanooga (sport boats), Holland (Roamer), Holland (cruisers) and Pompano Beach. Before the end of '76 the Chattanooga facility was closed and sport boat operation was moved to Holland cruiser facility and the Holland roamer facility was moved to Pompano Beach, leaving only 2 boat building facilities in the U.S. Chris-Craft Industries, Boat Division was still building boats in Italy and engines in Gallipolis, Ohio at that time (but this also changed before the end of the 70's).

If this is correct, the Lancers would have been moved from Cortland to Chattanooga prior to '76 and then to Holland in 1976. Then, Genth ended sport boat production in Holland in late '78, marking the end for Lancers (as I understand it).

Dustoff135's number of 230 sounds correct, I'll have to check the CC Essential Guide, but I thought the total was like 235-237, but it was in the 230s.

I own XK22 hull 101 which puts it midway through the production run. The one thing I can't figure out was why some of them came with through hull exhaust and some didn't and the exhaust went through the outdrive.

I have a bunch of the CC paperwork and catalogs for the XKs and I don't see any mention of the through hull being an option from CC. Mine doesn't have the through hull exhaust, just sort of wonder why at times.

The Cortland, NY plant was closed by Chris-Craft in 1974. Article from the Cortland newspaper said production was being moved to the Chattanooga, TN plant.

Andreas,
Thanks much for that. The fuel crisis along with Nixon resignation threw the economy into a tailspin in 1974. Was that also the final year for the Cadillac facility?

Ron, 230) XK-22's is shown in the Essential Guide with almost half of them being built in '71 & '72.

Roger,

The 19' Lancer was a more popular size. There were 1135 of them built between 1968 and 1977 and probably a few '78 models as well.
