Searching for Long Lost Chris Craft
Hello - new guy here !
I am in search of my grandfathers Chris Craft. He had bought it new in 1956. Sold it or traded it in 1959. I have the original bill of sale, the hull i.d. # and engine i.d. #. How should I proceed in searching for this boat. Has anyone had any luck in searching for a specific boat ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
thx
Scott

I think somewhere on this website is a hull number registry, but that would only cover the club members. You could contact the Maritime Museum and see if anyone has registered that particular hull number. If you think it remained relatively local after the sale, you could check with your state/county tax assessor collector to see if they maintain any sort of boat data base by hull number. I am sure there are other ways...... hopefully someone will chime in.

Here is the link to the Hull Registry. Since this a Member Maintained directory, it would only be here if someone has added it. You can order a Information Packet including the Hull Card from the Mariner's Museum, but it will not give any current information on the boat, just the original history. Good Luck.

You could ask the ACBS if it listed in their directory also.

You could also post the hull number here just in case someone knows something about it.

Hello -
Thank you for the reply.
This boat was bought at Irwin Marine, Alton Bay, Lake Winnipesaukee New Hampshire in 1956. It was sold in 1958 or 1959 at Lake Winnipesaukee also. I was told it was sold to someone with the last name of Tilton
Thank you
Scott

Hello-
Have a few updates.
Boat had been sold in 1968 in Groton MA.
MA Registry does not have any record of this hull number in their system, but I'm not surprised by that.
I waiting impatiently to talk to the guy who bought the boat in 1968. I'm supposed to be getting a call from him.
We'll see

That Hull # is not listed in the ACBS directory, BUT there are several 17' boats which do not list their hull numbers. You could always join ACBS and reach out to the unlisted Hull number members to see if they have your boat.

FOUND !!
In an amazing chain of events, I have found the actual boat I was looking for. It has been sitting in a back yard in NH for 40 years. I now have ownership of this boat. Needle in a haystack for sure. Needs a ton of work - buts its the one.

Great story. Start a blog so we can follow along. Would make a great story for Brass Bell. That is one of the more favorable boats by CC. Keep CCABC members aware and lots of advice will flow in to assist you.
