I am completely new to this. I just purchased a 1958 Cavalier with the original straight 6 engine. The starter will not turn at all.
1) Where can I buy a new one?
2) Two of the three bolts loosened about 2-3 threads and instead of coming all the way out, they just turn in place. Am I missing something here? Is there a trick to this?.........
Thanks in advance

1). They can often be rebuilt, so don't toss the old one just yet.
2) not sure

Right, they can be repaired. Where are you geographically so that a fellow CCABC member can readily point you to some shop in your area. Sounds like you have to get that starter out first.

Does third bolt unscrew from flywheel side?
Re: Where to buy a starter
The top and bottom bolts have nuts on the back side. The outside one goes in to a threaded hole.

Re: Where to buy a starter
Jim, do you mind telling me what the ................ they were thinking when they put the nuts inside the flywheel housing where there is no possible way to get them and the lock washer back on the bolt when you replace the starter???
I simply (nothing is simple) tapped some threads into those two holes and put the corresponding sized bolts back in..........

Re: Where to buy a starter
You remove the bolts and nuts with both hands. Then remove the tapped bolt with one hand while holding the starter with the other.
