How to Best Add an an Avatar from Photos

Post by North Woody » Sun Sep 02, 2018 10:30 am

Quick question for the Boat Buzz crew: What’s the easiest way to add an avatar from the photos on my iPad or iPhone? I have tried to upload a photo from both devices and I keep getting told that the file is too big and I need to use a smaller/lower resolution picture. So what’s the best way to convert an existing photo to a size that the site can accept? I haven’t had this problem on other forums (Early 911S Registry and the Moomba forums) so I’m stumped on how to solve it for Boat Buzz.

Thanks in advance for helping me with such a boring question :)

Can you email it to yourself and make it smaller while doing it? Works on Samsung.

All the sites have this as a protection. Large files suck up storage space and that costs money to support. Also page loading is slower and it also downgrades search from search engines. Thats why its this way. Now, how to lower the size. Depends on the method, I use photshop, but open the image and there will be in the menue a way to reduce it. Under 1 mg files. Nothing on the web needs to be larger. In your photos on your phone there is an edit option. Thats will help. Hope this helped all understand why this is that way and how to fix.

Cool, thanks Matt, that makes a lot of sense. I just downloaded PhotoShop on my iPad to finally get my avatar uploaded so thanks for the help. Now I can focus all my attention on digging deeper into the archives to find critical pieces of info on my ‘36 runabout like the exact dimensions and wood options for a period-correct gas dipstick.

And yes, I am starting to scare my wife with my obsessive search for all things Chris Craft :)
