Trailering Boat on Highway

Post by Loren Lettick » Mon Nov 14, 2022 9:28 am

I recently bought a restored 1946 20' Chris-Craft Custom and plan to travel to various freshwater venues several hundreds of miles at a time. The boat came with a full custom fitted Sunbrella cover. I am concerned about damage that may be caused on the road either by road debris on the bare hull, or by the cover flapping in the 60+mph wind. Which is the preferred way to tow on the highway--covered or uncovered?

I prefer covered. Stops stuff from flying out. Have eyelets in the skirt every couple feet to secure the cover to the trailer.

Thanks Jim. I'll add some tie-down points to the cover.

Our traveling covers we use al inner cover made of a car cover soft felt on the inside that goes down to bottom of the chine that fits the boat tight. Then and outer cover that goes down about 3 inches under the boat that is also tight fitted. Then we strap that outer cover to the trailer so wind doesn't get under the cover.
